We hadden dus gelijk vertrouwen in de man.
Was goed aangepakt.

Wizyta w Chemondi i Chemuses
Zadbał on jednak o zastępstwo i woził nas kierowca biskupa – Lidia.
Dobrze to zorganizowano.
W perspektywie długoterminowej chcą dostarczać produkty do supermarketów. Skądś znamy tę historię!!!
Po południu wróciliśmy do hotelu i mogliśmy wspominać udany dzień.

Visit to Chemondi and Chemuses
Today we had to do without Johnstone. He is our guide, but he is busy today and tomorrow. He has arranged for a colleague, Lydia, to step in, and we are being driven by the bishop’s chauffeur. The first driver to turn the car round outside the hotel in one go. We have faith in this man!
We left for the first cluster we were to visit on time. At Chemuses we were received by a small delegation. We went to see a grower who obviously took his work very seriously. He was fixing steel wires above the rows of plants and tying the plants to them. It all looked good, and Syngenta had also put up a greenhouse in which he can sow seeds and raise them for other growers with Syngenta’s support.
We also visited the cluster chairman’s fields. He has been following Vincent’s instructions so well that all he needed now was a pat on the back! He has a very neat operation. No weeds, poles in place, plants on ridges, irrigation and crop rotation. He also has a greenhouse in which he grows young passion fruit plants. The plants are grafted and delivered in sacks. This all looked very neat and tidy too.
Chemondi is a cluster that doesn’t belong to Satebu but is part of the new umbrella club. The PMO.
When we arrived with some people from Chemuses there were some ceremonies we had to go through before we could visit the fields. These looked less well cared for and there was a fair amount of bacterial wilt. They were not yet rotating crops.
The government has installed a PVC greenhouse there, in which plants were sown in beds and which had an irrigation system. The strategy was good but sadly seed emergence was poor. They still had some work to do. The greenhouse belongs to the community and is maintained by everyone. They have a growing committee that oversees crop growing.
Back in Chemuses we headed for the collection point where we met some members of the marketing committee and discussed the Satebo growers’ sales. What opportunities they have, what challenges they face, and what will happen in the future. In the short term the growers want to see the middlemen’s power curtailed. In the long term they want to start supplying supermarkets. A familiar story!!
Late afternoon and we’re back at the hotel looking back over a successful day.

Looye Kwekers:
Leuk verslag!
