Een lief klein konijntje

Vandaag hebben onze tuinders een dag voor hun familie en om op hun veldjes te werken, daarom zijn we andere projecten gaan bezoeken. We wilden graag zien hoe Satebu CBO het doet ten opzichte van andere groepen en wat wij kunnen leren bij andere groepen en gebruiken voor Satebu CBO.
We hadden om 9 uur afgesproken en om 10:15 waren we op weg (lekke band……die hadden we al weer een tijdje niet meer gehoord ) Als eerste hebben een youth group bezocht. Het idee van zo’n jeugdgroep is dat ze jonge mensen van de straat houden en ze onderwijs geven. Deze groep was niet echt heel jong meer en waren al een aardig op weg om een community based organization (CBO) te worden.

Jiedeleze Youth Group
Deze groep doet in kippen, konijnen, ganzen, bomen en tomaten. Als eerste hebben we de kippenfarm bekeken. Het grootste probleem was de husvesting van de kippen. Die was veels te klein, waardoor er 300 kippen zaten in een hok waar er maar 80 in zouden moeten. Dit kregen ze voor elkaar door heel veel medicijnen aan de kippen toe te dienen. Of zo’n kip echt goed is voor je gezondheid!
Daarna hebben we een even door hun bomenplantage en zijn we snel doorgegaan naar hun kas. Ze hebben namelijk van een NGO een kas gekregen en daar telen ze tomaten in. Het is een prachtige kas die ze hebben staan. De tomaten die erin stonden was een drama. Volledig onder de meeldauw. Het grootste probleem is dat ze echt niet weten wat ze aan het doen zijn. We hebben ze met een paar adviezen geprobeerd te helpen, maar ze lopen echt een stuk achter op Satebu.
Daarna hebben we een plantenkweker gezien die bij deze groep hoorde. Dit was een echte tuinder/uitvinder. Hij was bezig met aarde in een zak op een speciale manier, zodat je geen last hebt van ziektes. Daarnaast was hij volop aan het enten en veredelen. Wat echt gaaf was om te zien dat hij een oplossing heeft bedacht voor de problemen in een zaaibed. Deze oplossing kunnen we echt gaan gebruiken voor Satebu.
Als dank hebben we een konijn van deze mensen gekregen. Het is een schattig beest en we hopen dat ie net zo lekker smaakt als dat hij er nu uitziet.

Dawn of hope youth group
Is een wat kleinere groep als die hiervoor genoemd. Ze doen vooral in stekmateriaal en jonge planten. Ook zij hebben een kas gekregen, maar weten ook echt niet wat ze aan het doen zijn. Ze waren nu bijvoorbeeld aan het wachten op een antwoord van een van hun adviseur of ze al mochten enten of niet. Alleen dat antwoordt had al twee weken geleden moeten komen, dus waren ze veel te laat. Ze zaten wel een op een van de mooiste plekjes op deze aarde die ik heb gezien. Prachtig groen en glooiend in een rotsachtig gebied.
Nog even over het konijn… op dit moment zijn we aan het onderhandelen met de kok of hij het klaar kan maken. Helaas heeft de kok nog nooit een konijn klaar gemaakt. Nu komt er een man uit het dorp om hem klaar te maken. Morgen of overmorgen laten we weten hoe die smaakte..

A sweet little rabbit
Today, the growers are spending the day with their families and will work their fields, so we decided to visit a few other projects. We wished to see how Satebu CBO is achieving as compared to other groups and what we can learn from these other groups and apply to Satebu CBO.
We agreed to meet around 9 am and by 10:15 am we were finally on our way (a puncture……an excuse we hadn’t heard for a while ). We started by visiting a youth group. The idea behind a youth group is to keep young people off the streets and provide them with education. The group in question wasn't really all that young anymore and was well on its way to becoming a community based organization (CBO).

Jiedeleze Youth Group
This group keeps chickens, rabbits and geese and grows trees and tomatoes. We first looked at the poultry farm. The main problem here was the housing of the chickens. This proved much too small, which meant that a coop big enough for 80 chickens, actually housed 300. They managed to make it work by giving the chickens lots of medication. Whether a chicken like that is a healthy thing to eat remains the question!
Next, we had a quick look at their tree plantation and swiftly moved on to the greenhouse. An NGO donated the greenhouse and they use it for growing tomatoes. The greenhouse was definitely a beautiful one, but the tomatoes inside it were a real disaster. They were entirely covered in mildew. The main problem is that these people don’t really know what they’re doing. We tried to help them with some advice but they are a fair way behind as compared to Satebu.
After this, we went to see a plant grower who was part of this group. He turned out to be a real nurseryman/inventor. He was using compost in a bag in a very special way, which results in the crop not being troubled by diseases. Moreover, he was very much involved in grafting and breeding. It was excellent to see the solution he came up with for dealing with the problems in a seedbed. We can certainly use this solution for Satebu.
By way of a thank you, the group presented us with a rabbit. It was a cute animal and we hoped it would taste as good as it looked.

Dawn of Hope youth group
This group was a little smaller than the one mentioned above. They mainly produce cuttings and young plants. They were also given a greenhouse but also do not really know what they are doing. For example, they were currently waiting for an answer from one of their advisors to find out whether they were allowed to start grafting yet or not. The problem was that the answer was supposed to be given two weeks ago, so they were way too late. On the positive side, this place was located in one of the most beautiful areas in the world I have ever seen. Wonderfully green, with rolling hills in a rocky area.
But back to the rabbit for a moment… right now, we are negotiating with the chef trying to find out whether he can prepare it. Unfortunately, this chef has never cooked rabbit before, so a man will be brought in from the village to prepare it for us. Tomorrow or the day after, we will tell you how it tasted...

Mały, uroczy króliczek

Dzisiaj nasi rolnicy spędzali czas ze swoimi rodzinami i pracując w polu, dlatego my zajmowaliśmy się innymi projektami. Chcieliśmy sprawdzić, jak Satebu CBO radzi sobie w porównaniu z innymi grupami, a także podglądnąć, czego możemy nauczyć się od innych grup, a następnie podzielić się tym z Satebu CBO.
Byliśmy więc umówieni na godz. 9:00, a o 10:15 byliśmy jeszcze w drodze (złapaliśmy gumę... już dawno nie słyszeliśmy tej wymówki… ). Na początku spotkaliśmy się z grupą młodzieżową. Ideą tej grupy jest odciąganie młodych ludzi od życia na ulicy i edukowanie ich. Trzeba jednak przyznać, że grupa ta nie była aż tak bardzo młoda i powoli staje się ona pełnoprawną wspólnotą wiejską (community based organization – CBO).

Ta grupa zajmuje się hodowlą kurcząt, królików, gęsi, a także uprawą drzew i pomidorów. W pierwszej kolejności zwiedziliśmy farmę kurcząt. Największym problemem było miejsce, w którym trzymano kurczęta. Było ono o wiele za małe – 300 kurcząt znajdowało się w kojcu, w którym powinno być ich najwyżej 80. Oprócz tego w procesie hodowli kurczętom podawanych jest bardzo dużo leków. Ciekawe, czy taki kurczak jest smaczny i zdrowy…?!?
Potem zobaczyliśmy jeszcze ich szkółkę drzew i szybko weszliśmy do szklarni. Dostali oni bowiem szklarnię od NGO i tam uprawiają pomidory. Trzeba przyznać, że to bardzo ładna szklarnia. Pomidory, które w niej rosły, to był jednak dramat. Wszystko szczelnie pokryte mączniakiem. Największym problemem jest to, że ludzie ci zupełnie nie wiedzą, co robią. Próbowaliśmy dać im kilka porad, ale mimo to mają wiele do nadrobienia w porównaniu z Satebu.
Potem spotkaliśmy się jeszcze z osobą odpowiedzialną za uprawę roślin w tej grupie. Był to prawdziwy ogrodnik-wynalazca. Opracował on ziemię w worku przygotowywaną w specjalny sposób, który zapobiega chorobom. Oprócz tego zajmował się on szczepieniem i uszlachetnianiem. Fantastycznie było zobaczyć, że wymyślił rozwiązanie na problemy z rozsadnikiem. Rozwiązanie to możemy jak najbardziej zastosować w Satebu.
W podziękowaniu od naszych gospodarzy dostaliśmy królika. To bardzo ładne zwierzątko i mamy nadzieję, że smakuje tak samo dobrze, jak teraz wygląda.

To mniejsza grupa od tej, którą odwiedziliśmy wcześniej. Zajmują się oni przede wszystkim materiałem sadzeniowym i młodymi roślinami. Oni również dostali szklarnię i tak samo zupełnie nie wiedzą, jak ją wykorzystać. Teraz na przykład czekali na informację od jednego z doradców, czy mogą już szczepić, czy nie. Szkoda tylko, że odpowiedź miała przyjść już dwa tygodnie temu, więc mieli już dość spore opóźnienie. Miejsce to było jednak jednym z najpiękniejszych zakątków na świecie, które kiedykolwiek widziałem. Piękna zieleń w połączeniu z pochyłym, skalistym obszarem.
I jeszcze kilka słów o króliku… kiedy to piszę, właśnie negocjujemy z kucharzem, czy może go jakoś przygotować. Niestety jeszcze nigdy nie gotował on królika. Podobno ma przyjść jakiś facet z wioski, które umiałby to zrobić. Jutro albo pojutrze napiszemy, jak smakował…
